A group of Republican senators are calling on the country’s top three food delivery platforms to address allegations that emerged in a recent news report that suggests that illegal immigrants are filling in as delivery drivers.
In a letter to Uber Eats, DoorDash, and Grubhub, the lawmakers said they have concerns that food delivery services in major cities like New York are “being hijacked by illegal immigrants” who are not eligible to work.
The April 26 letter, penned by Sens. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), Mike Braun (R-Ind.), and Ted Budd (R-N.C.), points to the New York Post’s observation of the long lines of mopeds parked out front of Manhattan hotels that have been converted into migrant shelters. According to the Post, the influx of illegal immigrants in the city has bred a “black market economy,” where the new arrivals are paying current couriers to use their food delivery accounts to earn a living….
