Today Sony Interactive Entertainment announced that its acquisition of Destiny maker Bungie has completed.
The merger deal was originally announced in January for the purchase amount of $3.6 billion.
Bungie released a statement today providing more details now that it’s a subsidiary of Sony.
“We remain in charge of our destiny. We will continue to independently publish and creatively develop our games,” the studio said.
“We will continue to drive one, unified Bungie community. Our games will continue to be where our community is, wherever they choose to play.”
In addition to the Bungie deal closing this week also saw Haven Studios, lead by Jade Raymond, becoming a part of PlayStation.
Speaking with GamesIndustry.biz the industry veteran explained that the new studio will also be providing a live service experience for Sony.
“We’re making an exclusive for PS5, and it is a live service game, so we have additional challenges of how do we make that kind of game with that kind of delivery, but with the PlayStation-level graphics that people expect,” Raymond said.
“All while allowing for those constant updates and building something that could be a living experience.”
The deals with Bungie and Haven follow Sony’s intentions to launch more live service games in the future.
During February, the PlayStation maker said that it plans to release 10 online titles by 2026 — it said that developers will collaborate with Bungie.
