Skit Guys Are Working on a 2nd Movie Thanks to the Success of Family Camp

Fans of the Skit Guys and their new comedy film Family Camp can rejoice: They’re making a second movie.

Tommy Woodard and Eddie James – the faith-based comedy duo, known as the Skit Guys – told Christian Headlines they’re in the early stages of making a second movie thanks to the success of their first one, Family Camp, which is now available on home video.

The faith-based film opened in the Top 10 on its first weekend at the box office despite playing in less than 1,000 theaters. (By comparison, blockbusters such as Spider-Man typically open in more than 4,000 theaters.) Deadline called it “one of the strongest specialty openings” of the year.

“They asked, ‘What’s next?'” James said of the studio. “So the first one did well enough for them to ask, ‘What’s next?'”

The second movie, though, won’t necessarily be a sequel to Family Camp.

“I think it’ll be different storylines,” Woodard said.

Family Camp tells the story of two polar-opposite families who attend a Christian summer camp and are forced to share a yurt. Woodard and James play the respective fathers.

James said Family Camp corrected common errors of other comedic films.

“In this movie, the dads are not idiots,” James told Christian Headlines. “The kids aren’t smarter than the parents. And the mom doesn’t have all the answers. So we really try to make these people real and genuine, with a messy faith, to where nobody has it all together.”

The comedy in the film, he said, walks the fine line of being “clean, not cheesy and not offensive.” The movie’s primary lesson, James said, is that “families can be messy, but God made us masterpieces.”

Woodard said the film has a message for fathers who have workaholic tendencies.

“[My character] realizes he’s busier than God wants him to be,” Woodard said. “… Dads and parents don’t just provide for their families financially. They [also] provide for their families faithfully. That is really important.”
