Jermell Charlo dropped Brian Castaño twice in round 10 to earn a KO victory to become the undisputed super welterweight boxing champion.

Super welterweight champions Jermell Charlo and Brain Casataño met for the second time in 10 months, but Charlo walked away with the victory and as the division’s undisputed boxing champion.

Charlo and Castaño fought to an enjoyable draw in July 2021. Nobody hit the canvas in that contest, but Charlo scored two knockdowns in the rematch to secure the win.

In Carson, CA, the Dignity Health Sports Sports Park lived up to its nickname as ‘The War Grounds.’ Charlo and Castaño delivered 10 entertaining rounds of action, but Charlo’s power brought the contest to a close.

Charlo (35-1-1, 19 KOs) clipped Castaño on the chin with a left hook. It took a second for Castaño to go down, but that punch sent shockwaves down his legs and forced him to take a knee.

Castaño (17-1-2, 12 KOs) got back up, but Charlo landed a combination punctuated by a left hook to the body that put Castaño down again. Castaño struggled to get to his feet, but it didn’t matter.

The referee waved the fight off, sensing Castaño was too hurt to continue, giving Charlo the round 10 KO win.

Jermell Charlo is the undisputed super welterweight boxing champion after stopping Brian Castaño via round 10 KO

Charlo won Castaño’s WBO title to add to his WBC, WBA and IBF belts to become the undisputed super welterweight champion. He is 31 years old and is likely headed onto most people’s pound-for-pound lists if he isn’t there already.

It’s hard to tell who’s next for Charlo, but in his post-fight interview, he mentioned that he might try to become undisputed at 160 pounds.

That would be an interesting move since his brother Jermall is the reigning WBC champion. Also, it’s hard to believe that Charlo would relinquish his four titles after just capturing all the belts.

The Charlo twins are incredibly close and would never fight each other, but both have the potential to move up in weight. Jermall wanted a shot at Canelo Alvarez at super middleweight and probably still does.

It’s exciting times for the Charlo twins, but Charlo will probably enjoy his latest victory before making any immediate plans.
