As you’ve probably noticed by now, more than 17 months after he was fairly and squarely voted out of office, Donald Trump is still obsessed with the baseless idea that the 2020 election was stolen from him, and if you followed him around for a day, would undoubtedly hear him work it into conversation at least half a dozen times, from impromptu speeches at memorial services or weddings he crashed, to monologues delivered to poor waiters who just wanted to know if he required a fourth round of Diet Cokes. So it was pretty unsurprising, though nevertheless stomach-churning, to watch him tie yet another false claim of the 2020 election being “rigged” to the plight of countless dead Ukrainians. But he did!
In an interview that aired on Monday, Trump’s British pal Piers Morgan asked the ex-president: “When you see the scenes, Mr. President, of maternity hospitals being bombed, when you see refugees being attacked as they flee, grandmothers, children, babies, you see the decimation of previously prosperous cities living in a thriving new democracy, when you watch what’s happening, do you agree with my assessment that Vladimir Putin is now an evil genocidal monster?” Perhaps having finally realized how bad it looked to answer that question in anything but the affirmative, which he’d done on more than one occasion in the past six weeks, Trump responded “Yeah, but I also…”
“You do?” Morgan asked, barely able to conceal his surprise.
“Sure, who wouldn’t? What’s happening is horrible,” Trump said, calling the situation “such a stupid war.” But, of course, he couldn’t help himself. “I’ll tell you what I really think,” he told Morgan. “I said, ‘Isn‘t it a shame, all those people are dead all because of a rigged election.’ Because if our election wasn’t rigged, you would’ve had nobody dead.”
Obviously, this is a completely ridiculous thing to say, made more ridiculous by the fact that there is zero evidence the election was rigged. Of course, this isn’t the first time Trump has claimed that if he was in office, Putin wouldn’t have attacked Ukraine, an assessment his former advisers have said is bullshit, noting the 45th president’s slavish devotion to the Russian leader, that he “barely knew where Ukraine was,” and the fact that, more than likely, Russia didn’t not invade Ukraine while Trump was in office because it was scared of him but because it wasn’t ready, and was probably content to let him destroy NATO on his own.
And while it’s nice for Trump to get through one interview without calling Putin a tactical genius, he’s still effectively shifting the blame for unimaginable horrors from his favorite Eastern European dictator to the shadowy figures he is still trying to convince people stole a second term from him.

GOP Rep. Madison Cawthorn brought a loaded gun to the airport, again
Yes, he’s done this before! Per WSCO-TV:
Cawthorn was cited for having a gun at Charlotte Douglas International Airport Tuesday morning, police said. According to the Transportation Security Administration, a 9 mm handgun was discovered in a bag at Checkpoint D, and TSA officials contacted Charlotte-Mecklenburg police. A photo obtained by Channel 9 shows that a loaded Staccato C2 was recovered at the airport Tuesday.
This is not the first time a gun has been discovered on Cawthorn at an airport. In February 2021, TSA found a 9 mm handgun in Cawthorn’s carry-on bag at Asheville Regional Airport. Cawthorn did not face any criminal charges for the incident…A spokesperson for Cawthorn did not respond to a request for comment.
